10/05/10 Springtime Skirmishes : May 2010. Phew, there's been a dramatic pause in news but that's because we're saving up for an exciting announcement soon. In the meantime, we are hitting the road in the last week of May for a rare chance to catch Foxes! outside Brighton. Joining us will be the lovely Curly Hair, part of Brighton's infamous Willkommen Collective, who should you have a listen to right away.
Live shows!
We'll be playing Portsmouth's appropriately named Fat Fox on Monday 24th May. After that, we're returning to Brighton to support Quasi at The Freebutt on Tuesday 25th May, then we're heading up to Manchester for a headline show at Saki's Bar on Thursday 27th May. The excitement reaches a finale at London's Buffalo Bar on Saturday 29th May for a huge party courtesy of Pic'n'Mixx.
Here's some more information starting with a poster...

24/02/10 A New Tune A Day. Thanks to attendees at the Komedia the other week, it was great. The Guardian review was nice too. More dates are in the pipeline. I have made available a classic collaboration between myself, Kayla and Adam Casciaro of Onions For Eyes fame. The EP, entitled A New Tune A Day is available to stream and download for free over at our Foxes! Bandcamp page. Here is Adam's description of the EP:
"A New Tune A Day is the result of the revolutionary 2008 collaboration between acclaimed Twee-indie prog-folk quartet Foxes! and nationally acclaimed conceptual sonic artist/composer and professional singer Adam Casciaro.
Using a diverse range of instrumentation from remote controlled robot toys and even a guitar, A New Tune A Day poses and meditates on the question: "should we charge for this music?".
Other issues are explored within the EP. For example, on the EP's second track. "trees", Kayla Bell of Foxes! repeats the mantra "Trees are growing so fast... trees are growing so tall... Trees are growing, now all the trees will fall...", a sardonic exploration of the harrowing environmental ramifications of palm oil production, sung with a sweetness that counterbalances the weight of the issue, making it more palatable for those who prefer to sublimate real issues about real things and would rather just hum pretty tunes to themselves whilst dribbling into their bowl of Cheerios. By contrast, the haunting vocal apathy of Adam Casciaro on the track "Surrey County Council" forces the listener to stand to attention and take note of the instructions on the back of a Library Card, an underhanded commentary on the dangers of beaurocracy.
The other two tracks, despite their merits relative to music by other people, are just fillers really [ed. "ryu" is definitely not a filler, a baroque epic chronicling the little known early life of the famous street fighter ryu and his journey to japan].
So sit back and allow yourself to be transported into the world of A New Tune A Day by Foxes! and Adam Casciaro."
In other news, founding member Dan Pacrami has recently released a record with his new band The Swansea Recreation Centre and has launched his own website, Ghostboobs.co.uk. Check it out for some fine photography!
27/01/10 More Shows! Three more sets have been added to the schedule. The first is a Haiti Appeal charity show we are doing over at the East Slope Bar on Sussex University Campus' East Slope Bar this Friday 29th January. The Facebook event has all the details. Also confirmed is a support slot for The School at The Prince Albert on 28th March and for those of us already dreaming of the summer, I'm happy to say that we are going to be at the Indietracks Festival this July! This has always been our dream festival to play and so we really can't wait for that one!
In the meantime, don't forget our slot at the Komedia with Stornoway on 10th February, which really will be a huge and fantastic show. See the earlier entry for ticket info.
04/01/10 New Year. It seems that the festive period flew by and now we have been catapulted into a new year. Well there's some good news to round off 2009. I'm glad to report that the Krampus CD completely sold out and Christmas Songs was played by Huw Stephens on Radio 1 on Christmas Eve which was great to hear! Thanks to everyone who came down to The Freebutt on the 23rd, it was lots of fun.
So what do we have lined up for 2010? Well, quite a lot actually. Firstly, I'm happy to announce that the record is now completely finished and we're hoping to have some news regarding release dates in the near future. I can also announce our first show of 2010. We're really excited about this one, it's an opening slot for our old friends Stornoway on their first big UK tour at The Komedia in Brighton on 10th February. They've come a long way since we last played with them, two years ago now, and you might have seen them, well almost everywhere, including a great performance on Jools Holland recently which you should check out if you haven't done already. Advance tickets are available now for £10 so pick one up now to avoid disappointment. There's plenty more shows on the horizon so watch this space for more updates in the near future.
I'm also happy to report that Max's illustrated diary of our Californian tour in October is now viewable in the Max's diary section of the site. Check it out for the full story on our heady trip across the Atlantic.
It's all getting exciting as we map out the year, I hope you are all doing well and we hope to see as many of you as possible in the coming months!

04/12/09 Christmas Songs All Wrapped Up Nicely. More news for our festive pop song Christmas Songs that you may remember from last year. The rather awesome folks over at One Inch Badge Records are featuring the song on an ultra-limited edition hand-wrapped Brighton-based CD-R compilation, limited to just 50 copies. They look something like this:

Also featured are Brighton bands The Hornblower Brothers, Curly Hair, Lonely Ghost, Pseudo Nippon and My Device. We're playing a show to support the release with 3 of these bands at The Freebutt on Wednesday 23rd December which I believe will be a jolly acoustic show without Alan (sorry Alan fans) as he is away celebrating Christmas elsewhere. Here's a poster for the show (because we all love a good poster):

The wonderfully packaged CD-R is available exclusively in Brighton at Resident Records or online through the OIB Records website, which also lists more info on the release. The price is £4. Buy advance tickets for our Christmas Party from here (WeGotTickets) also for just £4.
29/11/09 Clowning Around in the Clouds. Phew the website went down for a few days but don't worry we were just on a little trip into the sky with our friend Bella the Cat.

Aww, we love Bella the Cat. Photo by Emily Mary Barnett.
Anyway, back in reality, we are playing a show with fellow Brightoners Clowns next Wednesday 2nd December at The Prince Albert pub on Trafalgar Street. Entry is just £4/£3 and the night kicks off at 8.30pm. It should be an amazing night so please come along and say hello and also listen intently to the music performed. NB. No animals were harmed in the making of this photograph although Kayla did suffer with allergies later that evening. How we suffer for our art.
18/11/09 A Very Cherry Christmas Vol. 5. I don't know whether you are thinking about Christmas yet? November is surely the best time to buy your presents. Well a new compilation from Cherryade Records should be top of your list. It features Christmas Songs giving the song it's first proper physical release (it is Christmas Songs rather than Christmas Gifts if you catch my drift). Here's the pretty artwork:

You can order direct from Cherryade Records Online Shop for just £6 or, if you are stateside, it will be available on import on Amazon.com from 1st December for just shy of $18. See the Cherryade site for full tracklisting on the CD.
17/11/09 Donate to Foxes! today. We're trying to raise money at the moment to spend on worthwhile musical causes. If you want to help us out then please make a donation using the PayPal button below. Please also drop us an email as well so that we can say thanks!
08/11/09 Gig @ Winterfest. We've managed to squeeze in one last festival before the end of the year. It's a charity event organised by Amnesty International and will take place at the Unitarian Church on New Road on Saturday 21st November. See the poster below for more information:

18/10/09 Back in the UK.

So we're back in the UK after a fantastic tour of the Californian coast with The Hot Toddies! It was an epic journey and there's photos, videos and a brand new journal from Max on the way. We've got some local shows lined up for the coming months so check out the link above for more information. Come down to The Hope next Tuesday for to see us play with Kid Canaveral, it should be lots of fun.
The shows page now has links for all the old pictures I could dig out of the archive, including live California Dreamin' tour photographs. Send me an email if you have any old gig photos of us and I'll put them on the site too!
11/09/09 Gig @ The Albert, Brighton on 18th September. There's a fun show coming up in a week's time at The Albert in Brighton. We're headlining with support from The Bobby McGees and our friend Oscar's new band Special Occasion. Check out this dashing poster designed by Emily Mary Barnett:

29/07/09 US Tour. Full dates of our California Dreamin' tour in October have been announced! Here's the poster:

Click the shows link above for full info! It's going to be fantastic!
24/06/09 Hello. Foxes! are an indie pop band who started out in Oxford back in 2005 and now live in Brighton. I wrote a long biography with some history on our last.fm page back in december last year (here). Since then we've released a split 7" with the songs It's Ridiculous, Adam and Oh Rosie and featuring Esiotrot on the other side. It was released by Sounds eXPerience Records in February and is still available over at their shop. We put out a single called Who Killed Rob? on CatCutter Records on 1st June. We also shot a video which you can watch here and the CD single is on sale here. If you don't buy cds then you can download it from Amazon, iTunes, Emusic, (etc) or stream directly from Spotify. As you can guess, this website is under public construction and not officially launched yet.
